Tomorrow (Wednesday) or today, if you don’t read this until Wednesday – is my first teaching day at school.
While I have taught children’s piano lessons before, and while I have observed children’s general music classes, this is my first time to ever actually BE the music teacher. I’ve compiled a list of things I plan to do on my first day:
1. Give a college level music theory placement exam (I realize these are K-5th kids, but hey, there’s no point babying them);
2. Have them listen to 10 minutes of Mozart;
3. Give a short, but dramatic sermon on the evils of country music;
4. End by singing a moving and inspiring children’s song, which I learned from Phoebe while watching “Friends:”
Oh the cow in the meadow goes “Moo”
Oh the cow in the meadow goes “Moo”
Then the farmer hits him on the head and grinds him up
And that’s how we get hamburger.
Now…. chickens!
