Soon, over 600 Starbucks stores will close in various parts of the US. Of those closures, 88 are in California, where I live.
Sadly, one of those closures will be Store #21065 at the Maui Marketplace in Kahului, Hawaii. I’ve been to that Starbucks a few times, and in case I get over to Maui again (which I hope to do), this is going to be a problem for me.
However – and this is a big however – NONE of the Starbucks locations in Torrance, California are closing. This is a HUGE relief to me, because I go to Starbucks frequently. But I’m proud and relieved to say that none of the ten stores in my town are closing. I’ve been to all ten of them, some more than others. But even though there are a few that I don’t go to very often, it’s a major comfort in my life to know that they’re there, and that I could, if I needed to, go there.
By the way, these ten Torrance Starbucks don’t include at least 15-20 more that I’ve been to within a 5-mile radius. The fact that none of those is closing only adds to my reassurance. The nearest Starbucks to me that are closing are in pretty bad neighborhoods of L.A., and I don’t go there. Maybe the people who live near those stores can come to one of the other ones, and not worry about getting shot in the process.
By the way #2 – Lest anyone think I’m a waster of money by going to Starbucks so much, let me point out a few things, well, just one – Since becoming a school teacher, I’ve become the recipient of lovely gifts given to me by my students and their families on a regular basis. Since I’ve been known to show up places with a Starbucks cup in my hand, these families regularly say to themselves, “AHA! Let’s get Mr. Miller a Starbucks card.” Seriously, I haven’t had to buy my own coffee in several months.
By the way #3 – Bummer for my peeps in Santa Clarita, California. It seems that they’re losing TWO stores. Since Santa Clarita isn’t that big, this can’t be good news. So I’ll make a deal with them. Anytime my Santa Clarita peeps want to come down my way, I’ll hook them up with some nice Starbucks coffee. Heck, I might even use my own money.
Our little town is losing one of its Starbucks. Very sad. However, since there is another Starbucks across the street from it, we are probably going to be OK.
But the biggest problem is that Jessica cannot get hired at Starbucks now that there are so many less stores. This has made a big impact on us this summer.
Now I know what to get you for Worship Pastor Appreciation Day which I hereby declare to be on August 5th!!! We love you!
