If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’re likely aware that I was planning to take a trip to Uganda this July, to do some work with an organization called Loving One By One. I was going to be doing some music, as well as helping out around the orphanage, school, and whatever else happened to come up for a few weeks.
I have had to make the decision to postpone this trip until next year. My plan is to go the summer of 2011.
I started planning for Uganda kind of late, and gave myself a pretty small window of time to raise the support. As it turned out, though people were very interested and generous, the total just didn’t come to where it needed to be.
At the same time as I was nearing the deadline for fundraising, I needed to make a decision about a few summer teaching projects which were being offerred during the same time period. So, I was not only up against a deadline for raising the Uganda funds, but also a deadline to say yes or no to the summer teaching projects.
So, I’ve decided that Uganda is out for me this summer. Next year, I’ll be in a much better position to go.
I’m feeling good about the decision. Although I have to say that the thought of spending two weeks in the middle of Africa with my bizzarre friend, Ken, was kind of exciting (in a terrifying sort of way). Oh well, next year!
P.S. – For those who sent donations, your checks are in the mail!
Charley, we are sad to see you not going with us this summer – but KNOW next summer you will be there with us in Uganda. Hey – what’s the crack about your bizzarre friend Ken – you couldn’t be talking about MY husband, now would you?? Yeah – the two of you in Uganda together – now that’s scary!
Dearest Tito,
Thanks so much for letting us know. You’re new campaign for funding can be: Loving One By One in Two O One One! Sounds like you did a very WISE thing, my Friend! Love you!!! XO
