Starbucks May Be Taking Themselves a Little Too Seriously

As I sit here in Starbucks on Sunday morning, getting ready for my massive workload this week, I can’t help but notice a display of whole bean coffee. I can’t help but notice it, because it’s about 3 feet from my table.

The various bags of coffee are separated into categories, based on how strong the blend is. Now, someone like me would just call them –

  • Weak
  • Not Quite as Weak
  • Average
  • Stronger Than Average
  • Guaranteed to Grow Extra Parts On Your Body

Starbucks, however, has categorized the coffee thusly:

  • Familiar & Friendly
  • Extraordinary & Enticing
  • Adventurous & Assertive
  • Interesting & Complex
  • Sturdy & Powerful

Come on people – it’s just coffee.

You can’t expect a chain that can’t say, “Small, medium or large” to come up with a simple categorization for coffee, though, can you?
