This morning I was reading from the first chapter of Ecclesiastes. Just trying to start a busy work week off with a little bit of reality. If you ever read that book, just make sure you read it all the way through because it comes off as pretty pessimistic until you put the whole thing together.
Anyway, because I wasn’t wearing my contact lenses yet, and because I don’t see as well with my glasses as I do with my contacts, I got to one particular verse and had to stop and read it again. I think I inwardly make that Scooby Do voice and said, “Huh??”
Ecc 1:8 says:
All things are full of weariness, a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear with hearing.
But for a minute there I thought it said:
All things are full of weirdness, etc.
A statement which, if it isn’t in the Bible already, should be.
One of my favorite verses is Genesis 34:7…….
“Now the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it; and the men were grieved, and they were very angry because he had done a disgraceful thing in Israel by lying with Jacob’s daughter, for such a thing ought not to be done. ”
That’s putting it mildly (in the New American Standard version…)
